May 3, 2011 - The Steel Wheels Live at Goose Creek album came out this week...check the announcements and links to iTunes and CD Baby on the Steel Wheels Artist Page, along with a preview from our 1-hour TV special on the band that will air on Comcast local channels in Northern Virginia starting on May 16.  CD's are also available from the band, so hit a Steel Wheels show if they're in your area.

What a great bunch of guys to work with...easy going, yet effective, they were a pleasure throughout the production and post- production processes.  This album is a great example of what they're like in person...tight harmonies, traditional music with elements of contemporary jam bands, and a great dynamic range.

Ain't That a Beautiful Thing to Do

March 5, 2011 - We just felt like hearing this song today.  Hang with us through our original animated intro...David Kitchen wrote this song with Harry Blevins and it's a really sweet song.  David recorded it for the first time at Goose Creek Live on May 16, 2009.

Janine Wilson at Goose Creek Live

March 3, 2011.  We had a great Goose Creek Live show with Janine on February 24....the band was in rare form both on and off the stage (nice matching Elements, folks...kids were hanging out in the parking lot waiting for clowns to emerge).  Rachel Leon from Patch.com showed up and did an interview with Janine, and I snapped my usual zillion photos when I wasn't pacing the whole facility.  Some of my favorite pics are below...

Janine and Max write great songs...think Tom Petty with a female perspective on the lyrics.  They performed a BUNCH of Janine's classic and award winning songs...Waking up in Texas, It Should Be Me, I'm Not for Real...all great rootsy pop tunes that sound just like your life.

Even better...Patty Reese was in attendence with Ruthie and Janet, and ran in to Paul Shreve, the music writer, producer, and media consultant for author Meg Gardiner.  Paul worked with Goose Creek Music to produce music for Meg's new novel "The Liar's Lullaby", and Patty provided the vocals.  You can download the tracks from iTunes, or from Meg's site for free.

Guitarists

January 3, 2011.  We’re about to release a bunch of new Goose Creek Live material, and Stuart and I have also been reviewing our catalog for a Goose Creek Music compilation disk.  Since I'm a guitarist, I particularly enjoy listening to the live solos, and pulled out the clips below as some of my favorites.

We have some great guitarists that play all over the metro and mid-Atllantic area…here are some exceptional Washington DC guitarists we’ve seen at Goose Creek Live.  All of these guys were featured with other headliners during Goose Creek sessions, but most of these players can be seen in a variety of places and bands in the mid-Atlantic region.

Anthony Pirog – with David Kitchen, he shows traces of Steely Dan, Burt Bacharach, Rockabilly, and Texas Swing…he has something surprising every way he turns.  Every solo tells a story.

Mike Stacey – explosive rock player, with touches of virtuosity in surprising places.  He’s as impressive for the tasty stuff he’s playing behind Sam Grow as well as his solos.

Andy Rutherford – Tasty twangy telecaster with a shy smile.  If you like Buck Owens and Asleep at the Wheel, you’ll like Andy’s guitar work.  Check out Ruthie’s new video for the whole song.  Besides with Ruthie, you can see Andy with the Thrillbillies at the Sunset Grill.

John Penovich - Lyrical rock and roll, he's great at phrasing signature licks that make a song pop.  John played at Goose Creek with Billy Coulter, but also gigs a lot with the Cravin' Dogs and the Yachtsmen, and also does alot of guitar and production work with Bandhouse Gigs.

Why We Love To Record Live Music

0 Trackbacks

November 2011: Studio albums made well are terrific. But they’re hard to make well.

The energy and vitality of live music played well at the moment of performance is what we’re often trying to emulate when we spend hours and hours in the studio playing every part until its perfect.

October 10, 2010: Things are moving fast at Goose Creek, we're growing and expanding what we do.

First, Stuart Martin joined the company as Chief Engineer and Managing Partner in July, and brings with him all the capabilities of his fabulous Stonebridge Studios, just outside of Leesburg, Virginia.  Stuart is a gifted audio engineer, and is the secret behind the crystal-clear recordings for Goose Creek Live.

CD Release Party - David Kitchen

December 5, 2009
What a night!  We launched David Kitchen's Live at Goose Creek CD at the M&S Grill last night, and the party was better than I could have hoped for.  A lot of people did many things to help us along, but special thanks to these people in particular...

Stuart Martin worked his magic on the board, and the room sounded great.  I don't know what he does, but every time he touches a mix, it sounds like a million bucks.

Sorry it's been so long since I've written.  There has just been so much going on.

We launched "The Sam Grow Band, Live at Goose Creek" at Vera's Beach Club on August 25, and celebrated with Sam's Manager Michael Gewirtzman and the usual suspects from Southern Maryland.  I had a great time this summer hanging out with The Sam Grow Band Entourage at Gilligan's and Vera's, and want to thank all of you for your hospitality and for everything you do.  CD sales at gigs have been going great, and we appreciate everything that goes into that result.

Tomorrow, ComCast starts broadcasting our videos on Channel 2 in Loudoun, Fairfax, and Prince William Counties.  It sounds like we may get some airplay in Stafford County as well.  If you've come to the site because you saw us on television, PLEASE drop me a line at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , and let me know when you saw us, your favorite video, and suggest any bands you'd like us to work with.  I'm hoping that we're a pleasant surprise while folks channel surf through to check out the the Community Service Announcements, local sports, and other local programming.

July 1, 2009 - Comcast
Liney and I met with Stan Rogers from Comcast yesterday, and we're really pleased with their enthusiastic support for the local music scene in Northern Virginia.  Look to see Goose Creek Live videos from Franklin Park on Comcast Channel 2 very soon, and we're also hoping to work with Stan and his crew to do new shows in new places.

The First Concert Series

Everyone who came, everyone who participated, everyone who hung out at the first Live at Goose Creek concert series...thanks.  That was a blast.

We're deep into post production...Liney is sorting through layers of video every morning, and we're looking at mixes at night.  Stuart Martin and I will spend a whole day in the studio on Tuesday, going through the David Kitchen tapes (wow...he was good), and the final tweaks of Sam Grow's live album.

Everything feels a bit like I'm going slightly too fast on a bicycle...and there's more to come.

Watch this space...cheers,

- Mike
